Revenge very seldom works when dealing with things. One example of revenge not working was when Britain and France made up the Treaty of Versailles. They made the Germans pay for the damage caused by the war, they also made Germany say that the War was their fault, and they made Germany agree to having only an army made up of 100,00 men, and many other requests sought out by Britain and France. This eventually led up to Germany wanting revenge for how they were being treated and the unfairness of the treaty. Germany started breaking many of the rules in the treaty and eventually took some of their land and invaded Poland as well, which started the outbreak of World War II.
Appeasement:
Appeasement, as well as revenge, very seldom works while dealing with things. While the Germans were seeking revenge on Britain and France for being treated the way they were the Germans could have easily been stopped, but Britain and France sat by and let them break the treaty. The Germans were trying to take Anschluss and it was handed over to them in an agreement that Germany would stop there and not want anymore land, but Hitler was not a man of his word and wound up invading the rest of Czechoslovakia, and 6 months later Poland as well. If Britain and France had stepped in earlier and had done something about the Germans this likely could have been avoided, but instead of dealing with things they scooted the problem aside and acted as if everything was fine, which led them to the start of World War II.
